The power switch (or button) controls the power to the |motherboard| and its components. In integrated systems, it also controls power to the |monitor|. One should remember that as long as the |power cable| is plugged into a power outlet and is attached to the |power inlet| on the computer, electricity is still being sent into the internal |power supply|. Therefore, it is important never to open the chassis without disconnecting the power from the computer. Doing so will diminish the risk of electrical shock. It is not recommended that the user open the smaller computer systems (doing so often voids the manufacturer's warranty) as their smaller, more compact nature makes them easier to damage.
